Frequently Asked Questions

1. What is Longarm Quilting?

Longarm quilting is a method of stitching together the quilt top, batting, and backing using a specialized quilting machine. This allows for intricate designs, even stitching, and a professional finish that enhances the beauty and durability of your quilt.

2. How should I prepare my quilt for longarm quilting?

To ensure the best results, please:

  • Press your quilt top and backing thoroughly.

  • Trim loose threads that may show through light fabrics.

  • Ensure the backing is at least 4–6 inches larger than the quilt top on all sides.

  • Do not baste or pin the layers together—each layer must remain separate.

3. What types of quilting designs do you offer?

I offer a variety of designs, including edge-to-edge (all-over) quilting and custom quilting tailored to specific areas of your quilt. We will discuss design preferences to find the best fit for your project.

4. What kind of batting should I use?

I recommend high-quality batting such as 100% cotton, bamboo, or a cotton/poly blend. If you are providing your own batting, ensure it is at least 4–6 inches larger than your quilt top on all sides.

5. How do I choose thread color and style?

I will work with you to select a thread color that complements your quilt. You can choose from subtle blending threads or contrasting options that highlight the quilting design.

6. How long does the quilting process take?

Turnaround time varies based on workload, quilt size, and complexity of design. On average, most quilts are completed within 1-2 weeks from the time I receive your quilt until I mail it back to you. This does not include the shipping time.

7. How much does longarm quilting cost?

Pricing is based on the size of the quilt and the quilting design selected. I offer edge-to-edge quilting at a per-square-inch rate, while custom quilting is priced based on complexity. Contact me for a detailed quote.

8. Do you offer binding services?

Yes! I offer machine and hand-binding services for an additional fee. Let me know if you would like assistance finishing your quilt.
